Project Showcase: GRSIA Web Portal – Critical Government Service Design

Role

UI/UX Designer & Graphic Designer (Focusing on Government Service Design, Accessibility, and Information Architecture)

Overview

The General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority (GRSIA) is a vital government entity in Qatar. This project involved designing a robust, official web portal to serve citizens and residents, providing access to essential services, news, studies, reports, and ensuring transparent communication regarding social insurance and retirement decisions.

The Design Challenge

Designing for a critical government institution required a strong focus on trust, compliance, and user accessibility. Key challenges included:

Information Hierarchy: Structuring a vast amount of legal, financial, and regulatory content (Studies, Reports) into an easily navigable system.

Visual Authority: Creating a design that is clean, professional, and reflects the authority and gravitas of a national institution, while remaining intuitive.

Accessibility: Implementing best practices for digital accessibility, including features like text resizing controls (A+ buttons visible in the header) for maximum public reach.

My Design Process & Key Contributions

My process was centered around delivering a secure and highly usable public service platform:

1. Requirements & Information Architecture (IA)

Stakeholder Alignment: Worked closely with GRSIA stakeholders to understand content priorities, compliance requirements, and citizen needs.

Navigation Design: Developed a clear, multi-level navigation system, ensuring quick access to core functions like 'Surveys,' 'FAQ’s,' 'Studies and Reports,' and 'Media Center.' The top-level navigation was designed to be consistent and immediately understandable.

2. Visual Design & Trust Building

Branding Integration: Ensured seamless integration of the national and GRSIA official logos, maintaining government visual standards throughout the portal.

Content Highlighting: Utilized clean white space and subtle golden accents (as seen in the highlighted news banner about the Amiri Decision) to draw user attention to critical announcements and links without clutter.

Search Functionality: Prioritized the placement of a prominent Search bar with an 'Advanced Search' option, recognizing that users often seek specific regulatory or financial information quickly.

3. Interaction Design & Accessibility

Responsive Layout: Designed the portal to be fully responsive, maintaining functionality and legibility across desktop browsers, tablets, and mobile devices.

Accessibility Features: Incorporated essential accessibility controls, such as the text size adjustment buttons (A+), to cater to users with varying vision needs, demonstrating commitment to inclusive design.

Intuitive Interaction: Ensured clear, functional hover states and easy-to-read typography (Inter-based fonts) to make navigating documents and forms straightforward.

Tools Used

Figma: Prototyping and high-fidelity mockups of key transactional pages and content layouts.

Adobe CC: Image processing and asset preparation, ensuring all visuals (like the official image in the banner) met high resolution and compression standards.

Outcome

The GRSIA web portal launched as a successful, accessible, and authoritative digital platform. It significantly streamlined public access to retirement and social insurance information, setting a high standard for government web services in the region.
